Obeying the Golden Rule is the sign of a positive high self-esteem:  “Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you.” (The Bible)

 

The Golden Rule is all about love.  "Is love really important in my sales career?  Do I really need to love my prospect?"  Read on:  Love for ourself and love for other people.  But how can we truly follow the Golden Rule if we don’t love ourself?  Well, the truth is that it would be extremely difficult.  If people would treat themselves like dirt then what would keep them from treating other people the same way?  If they don’t respect themselves then how can they show respect to other people?

 

I believe self-esteem and obedience is a key to living the Golden Rule.  Self-esteem because we all need to learn to love and believe in ourselves.  Obedience because we all need to obey Jesus’ commands on how to love people including ourselves.  Jesus said, “Love your enemies.”  He also said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Unfortunately, many people are an enemy with themself.  So, people in this situation need to be obedient to God by forcing themselves to love themselves.  Simply be nice to yourself.  Most of us know how to be nice to strangers.  We need to treat ourselves the same way.  In time, you will begin to love yourself and “your neighbor as yourself.”

 

We can learn from a cute story about a six-year-old and her four-year-old brother.  One day, these two children got into an argument.  Before long, the two children began hitting each other.  The mother  ran into the room and yelled, “Children, you stop that this instant!  Be nice to each other!  Haven’t you ever heard of the Golden Rule?”

 

The six-year-old looked at her mother and exclaimed, “Yes, Mom, but he did it unto me first.”

 

Yes, we are to do unto others but where this child made her mistake was that she didn’t understand what we are to do unto others.  What we are to do is love.  The Golden Rule is love.  Love for God, ourself, and other people.  If we simply love, then we are fulfilling the Golden Rule and I believe your sales will go up too.
